March 2024 Report

Below is the Oregon City School District reporting on the Strategic Plan efforts as of March 7th, 2024.

Robust Systems of Belonging and Well-being

GOAL 1: By 2027, each and every student will receive support for behavior and academics to access grade level experiences and success.

  • The Equity in School Discipline team is meeting regularly each month at the district level and at each school.

  • All levels of our schools are represented K-12, and administrators and TOSAs are included.

  • Heading into spring, the team will review our current policy and practices in referrals and bring any revisions to the student code of conduct.

  • Intervention Team Professional Development for all school teams in January.

  • All Classified Staff completed 321-Insight training for meeting students’ diverse needs.

  • Our PBIS teams are utilizing data-based decision making matrix for addressing school-wide behavioral concerns in monthly meetings.

  • Our PBIS coordinator, Shawn Fletcher, is regularly partnering with buildings to create plans based on areas concerns and data gathered. This data is gathered from data pulls from our student information system related to discipline.

    • For example Tumwata Middle school created a new bus dismissal process resulting in a safer and more efficient process.

GOAL 2: By 2027, we will identify, develop and leverage community partnerships to support student wellness.

  • Referrals for wellness support currently processed through building staff with administrators and counselors

  • School Social Workers continue to build partnerships with families. Currently they have responded to over 75 requests for support and assist school staff as well.

  • McKinney-Vento continues to reduce barriers to connect with families, including simpler email address (MKV@OCSD62.org), easy to fill referral forms, and a soon-to-be updated website.

  • Long-term planning for MKV includes  identifying  earlier in August to minimize any disruption of services for qualified families to attend school on day one.

  • We are working on an ongoing goal with a need to spend more time as a cross-discipline committee. Specifically, because there can be overlap between school counselors, school psychologists, school social workers, and behavior intervention specialists, some of this work may be best done with representatives from each group alongside administrators.  We have many new staff in these roles so the ongoing clarification is important.

  • We are also updating websites and handbooks for different disciplines

GOAL 3: By 2027, all students will report a sense of belonging and be able to identify one trusted adult, and/or describe a school-related community to which they belong.

  • Nine  schools have engaged staff in “know every student” activities to identify students connected and not connected with an adult.

  • Monitoring, calling, meeting and connecting with students and families who miss more than 10 days.

  • High school tracking students involved in sports and activities by season; investing best systems for longitudinal tracking.

  • Established a mid year check-in on the attendance team at each school.

  • Principals have established an attendance team who are reviewing plans and data with the Intervention team.

  • Each team is pulling data at least bimonthly and creating specific plans and implementation for students who are experiencing chronic absence.

  • We are continuing to communicate with families to provide supports and address needs

  • At our mid year academic conferences all principals reported an increase in regular attenders.

  • Attended ODE Grow Your Own Workshop in February to connect with resources and program options.

  • Connected with Clackamas Community College Early Childhood Lead to work on placing students for practicum experiences in our schools.  Also investigating partnership for our bilingual high school students to join the program.

  • Collaborating with Clackamas Community College Department Chair for the English to Speakers of Other Languages to bring English classes to OCSD for our staff.

  • Partnering with PSU’s Bilingual Educator Pathways to support staff interested in continuing their education.
