Below is the Oregon City School District reporting on the Strategic Plan efforts as of March 7th, 2024

Career and College Readiness

Goal 1: By 2027, all students will have a 6-year plan (7-12th grade) that will support post graduation planning.

  • All 6th graders are enrolled in Naviance.  

  • Middle school coaches are training all middle school teachers to incorporate Naviance activities into their advisory schedules.

  • All middle school students have a portfolio that includes evidence within four competencies including: 

    • Analysis

    • Collaboration

    • Creative expression

    • Writing

  • The portfolio pieces are developed within all classes - core and electives.  Every time they have a career related experience, a reflection is added to the portfolio.  

  • All high school teachers were trained in Naviance in December and student modules to engage are continuing to be pushed out during advisory. 

  • Total Naviance Enrollment at OCHS -1910 

    • 69% of students have engaged with Naviance at least once at this mid year mark..

    • 57% of students have logged into Naviance 2 or more times.

      • 12th Grade - 444

        • 73% at least once

        • 68% 2 or more

      • 11th Grade - 505

        • 65% at least once

        • 58% 2 or more

      • 10th Grade - 471

        • 50% at least once

        • 30% 2 or more

      • 9th Grade - 487

        • 87% at least once

  • Four year planning with 9th graders has been completed in Naviance.

  • Juniors log in during check-ins with Career and College staff.

  • Seniors log in for college exploration and applications as well as senior check-out forms later in the year.

  • College criteria has been reviewed with students along with an explanation of CTE courses. 

  • Approximately 500 + students have met individually with one of our College and Career Coordinators to answer questions about self reflection.

  • Our Board has approved a new course for Internship opportunities. It is now included in the course catalog for a .5 credit

  • OCHS has hosted an evening College and Career Fair for parents and students where 45 colleges and career associations were present. Approximately 300 parents and students attended.

  • OCHS hosted career spotlights for students and has had 35 companies participate with presentations. Approximately 1334 students attended. 

  • We will continue to host job talks through the end of the year.

  • Multiple partners are committed to participating in internship opportunities with our students and we are currently developing or evolving those internship opportunities with them. 

Goal 2: By 2027, all classroom teachers will tie their units or instructional content to career and college readiness at least quarterly.

  • Career related experiences for 8th graders have increased at both schools, with career weeks for all students.  

  • High school teachers trained in the sixteen career related areas reflected in Naviance to begin to better understand and connect their content to careers. 

  • Passage presentations are set for Middle School  and members of the community are invited to come in as advisors and experts to interact with students.

  • Six CTE educators and administrators  attended the ACTE Career Tech Vision Conference this winter. 

  • Our Career Pathways administrator and CTE teachers Brent Leong, and Rhea Ledda attended the Oregon DECA state Career Development Conference this February. 

  • Training on Naviance continues to expand career related opportunities along with the creation of a resource website to include newly established resources. 

  • Paxton/Patterson career based curriculum has been reviewed and a pilot program is set to begin by April.

  • Several sessions were held at our Educational Equity Conference for staff  to support this goal: 

    • Digital Citizenship at the 2nd level

    • Career & College Readiness

    • Employability Skills

Goal 3: By 2027, all students will have a post-secondary plan for at least two years out of high school and be prepared to execute it.

  • All IEP case managers at the highschool level have been trained in multiple transition assessments.  They are completing interviews and transition assessments on students 16 and older being served on IEPs 

  • IEP teams with the support from the interview and assessment data are creating individual transition goals based on student preferences, needs, interests, and strengths to support post-high school plans.   

  • 22 Career partnerships are developing and evolving as needs are unveiled.

  • The OCSD College and Career website is currently in the process of being developed with support of student interns and will contain information on the 16 career pathways, additional resources, and opportunities for students.

  • The Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) for our community partners has been reviewed by our Risk Advisor. 

  • Additional class curriculum for work readiness  is being explored and  established.

  • Two internships have already begun with 3 more partners waiting for students and multiple partners interested in creating internship programs within their companies
