March 2024 Report
Below is the Oregon City School District reporting on the Strategic Plan efforts as of March 7th, 2024.
Engaged Communities
GOAL 1: By 2027, our schools will experience consistently high levels of family/caregiver involvement and participation in school activities or events.
Our district communication plan includes the following objectives:
To promote and highlight the progress and implementation of our Strategic Plan
Position OCSD as “the district of choice” for quality teaching, learning, and student achievement
Focus the communication efforts on engaging stakeholders to take action on behalf of students
Make school building-level communication the major thrust of the communication effort
Everyday Matters - Increase awareness on the importance of attendance and increase student attendance rates
In partnership with MCREN, we are working with Diana Grindea (formerly associate principal at Holcomb Elementary) as our district’s Equity and Belonging Specialist. With her, we are developing a family and caregiver involvement study to be conducted in late April / early May to help assess our district’s work to be welcoming and inclusive and offer opportunities for involvement..
We are still tracking attendance data at each school for events that families are invited to attend (conferences, movie nights, bingo for books, music concerts, etc)
Attendance of family and community events at our schools thus far:
Total events held: ~ 68
Approximate total attendance: ~20,376
Reported number of volunteers in November was ~444
Current number is: ~844

GOAL 2: By 2027, all volunteers will be meaningfully connected to students and schools. We will increase partnership and mentorships for students to enhance student success.
By widely and consistently sharing through district and school channels (ParentSquare newsletters, event posts, social media, websites, etc) about opportunities to volunteer both broadly and specifically (specific events, specific tasks, etc), we increased our volunteer numbers from approximately 444 volunteers processed and in schools in November, to approximately 844 volunteers processed and in schools in March.
We are currently continuing to evaluate our existing mentorship programs and are collecting data on participation and effectiveness to inform our plan on how to increase and improve our mentorship programs.
Our secondary schools have been working to expand our current partnerships and mentor programs in the following ways:

HelpCounter database is being updated to an “all-in-one” system for volunteer registration. We are currently awaiting the Russian translation of the system. Anticipated launch date of April 1, 2024.
Unfortunately, we do not have demographic data of our volunteers; we do not collect demographic data within our current volunteer registration process.
